Going Green & Mute: A New Way of Living for Millennials

Excess and consumerism are out, nature and minimalism are in: young homeowners are increasingly eschewing the stone-and-steel aesthetics of the 2000s for something markedly more subdued and harmonious. More than just a visual direction, going green and mute is a new way of living among millennials, who have a different way of approaching living in modern times.

Whether you’re looking for ideas to bring sustainable ideals to your living space or to remodel it in order to attract young buyers, read on.

Designing your dream home? We can help!

Mute Doesn’t Mean Boring

Far from endless swathes of monochrome, modern homeowners are creatively expressing themselves within the muted shades: clever combinations of subtly different shades are becoming the norm in these new living spaces, with pops of brown to ground the overall aesthetic in a wholesome earthiness, be it brass accents on the wooden furniture or mustard brown dyed woollen throws on the couch.

When put together, these muted colours help to ground one in the here and now, fostering both focus and relaxation by cutting out the visual noise. When designing with muted colours, try playing with both similar and contrasting shades, such as the browns on Gradino, and amaze yourself with the results!

Going Green is More Than Plants

Adding a potted plant or two is barely more than lip service for the homeowner looking to live sustainably: sustainably sourced wood furniture is increasingly favoured over plastic and steel for the ethics as much as their comfort and aesthetics, and energy labels are more important than ever to this group of homebuyers.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, you can’t go wrong with embracing all the shades of green, from artichoke to aquamarine, which plays off the other muted colours of the interior spaces. Try also taking it a step further and incorporate wood and stone elements like ZR Barnwood or Scene to complete the look.

P.S. Did you know that tiles are eco-friendly? It’s true!

The Difference is in the Details

While house and apartment layouts are becoming more and more homogenous, the new breed of homeowners are finding ways to differentiate their living spaces through their unique individual styles, whether through accessories or interesting combinations of muted shades.

From big slab tiles to mosaic art, feature walls are another way to help one home stand out from the next. Simple textures, artfully matched, can also create a variety of different looks and feels according to your preferences, helping the space to stand out while blending in.

In love with the look of stone? Consider l’Pietra for an incredibly versatile range of stone effect tiles.
